Week 9 Wrestlers of the Week

BOYS

TOW: South Dade: The Class 3A state duals champions followed it up with a big win at the Colby Singletary Memorial IBT.

106: Cannon Sommer (Mount Dora): Improved to 24-2 on the season with a first-place performance at the Wolfpack Invitational.

113: Erick Vargas (Lakeland): Served notice to the rest of Class 2A with an upset win over the #2 wrestler at 113 pounds in the Moskowitz IBT final.

120: Gian Oritz (Jensen Beach): A title at the Colby Singletary Memorial came in a deep weight class.

126: Gabriel Tellez (SW Miami): Battled through a tough weight class to win the Live Greco title.

132: Sam Marvel (Wellington): The senior took home the Tri-County title in a weight class with five Top 15 wrestlers competing.

138: Jacob Wyatt (Palmetto): Won his second straight tournament with a strong performance at the Palmetto Pride IBT.

144: Austin Chung (Lake Gibson): For the second straight weekend, Chung upended the wrestler above him in the rankings, this time he earned a title at the Colby.

150: Wyatt Leduc (Middleburg): Improved to 41-1 on the season with a podium-topping performance at the Wakulla FCA.

157: Drake Bonney (Miami Palmetto): The Panthers sophomore topped a deep field at the Tri County Invitational.

165: Gage Wiggins (Braden River): Stayed undefeated on the season at 42-0 with a perfect weekend at the Colby IBT.

175: Kaleb Mathis (Lakewood): Needed overtime to beat a Top 20 opponent and come out on top at the Gibbs Invitational.

190: Jett McCauley (Charlotte): Defeated the #1 wrestler in Class 3A in the finals of teh Colby Singletary.

215: Omarion James (Lake Region): Won the Massung Scramble to improve to 27-1 on the season.

285: Ryan Miret (Miami Southridge): Put in a title-winning performance at the Tri County Invitational.

GIRLS

TOW: Matanzas: The defending girls state champion won the team title at the Moskowitz girls tournament.

100: Sophie Booe (Palm Harbor University): In a Lady Rams bracket that included four ranked wrestlers, Booe came out on top.

105: Phoenix Crane (East Lake): Stayed unbeaten with a win at Anna B. Alvarez.

110: Sofia Ferran (Mater Lakes): Avenged some losses from earlier in the season and beat two Top 3 wrestlers at the Lady Rams.

115: Kamora Willis (Coral Gables): The GMAC champion improved to 19-3 on the year.

120: Grace Lashinsky (DeLand): The Bulldog junior knocked off two Top 5 wrestlers to reach the final at the Lady Rams Tournament of Champions.

125: Daniella Espinal (Hernando): Had a monster weekend at the Lady Rams, winning a weight class that had five Top 15 wrestlers competing.

130: Callie Alfieri (Gulf): The North Central College commit pinned the third-ranked girl in the state in the finals at Lake Mary.

135: Nehemie Gregorie (Apopka): Celebrated another Metro title on Friday with a dominant performance.

140: Kelsey Marschka (Chiles): Earned her way into the rankings with a first-place performance at the Lady Trojan.

145: Ciara Cortez (Sebastian River): The senior won another tournament, coming in first at the Hawkeye at Viera.

155: Claire Ajose-Adeogun (Florida High): A perfect day at the Lady Trojan raised her record to 19-3 on the year.

170: Jikayla Hutto (Jones): Took home the Metro title with a pin fall over the third-ranked wrestler in the state in the final.

190: Day'Jah Clark (Miami Norland): Another GMAC championship was taken home by the Vikings' senior.

235: Kinea Moore (Boca Ciega): Won the Anna Alvarez with a 30 second pin in the championship bout against a Top 10 wrestler.
