Vote: Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week
BY BRANT PARSONS — We have received your nominations and picked out the wrestlers to be voted on for Kabra Wrestling’s Reader’s Choice “Wrestler of the Week.”
Please read the nominations and vote below:
Jordan Blomberg (Palmetto Ridge): Jordan struggled in youth wrestling, he went into high school and exceeded all expectations and surprised his coaches and was the one of two freshmen on the team to punch a ticket in 3A state tournament.
Drake Bonney (Miami Palmetto): In the last two weeks he beat three top-five wrestlers.
Dallin Filetti (First Academy-Leesburg): He’s a rising eighth grader and will be wrestling 106 for First Academy-Leesburg. He had strong showings at the CWC Spring 3style, Palm Bay Spring Classic, and Mustang Open.
Corbin Fjalstad (Martin County): Lost in the quarters at Adidas Nationals to a state champ and came back in great fashion to take 4th and All-American.
Rex Graff (Yulee): He won the Gator Cup Brawl, the first tournament he has ever won.
Arron McCarty (Robinson): He was 6-0 at Brandon and looked amazing.
Johnathan Morrison (Creekside): He just received the CHS 2023-24 Top Season Takedowns and Most Improved Awards. He began his off-season work the weekend after state. He practices with the Saint John’s Wrestling Academy, Applied Pressure and drops in at the North Florida Wrestling Club. This is a young man who didn’t make the team his freshman year, was a varsity back-up his sophomore year, and the 175-pound starter his junior year.
Adaias Ortiz (Kissimmee Osceola): At Lake Gibson two weeks ago, he did not get scored upon and no match lasted through the first period in any of his matches. This past weekend at Spartan WC at LHP, was 8-0 and unscored on again. His total scores over the two weekends was 175-0.
Matthew Pishotta (West Port): He has been training hard and finding new places to get the best training he can. He traveled to MO for Adidas Nationals and placed 7th going up a weight class from regular season. He is ready to learn and grow from all of these experiences. He trains hard even on his own. His training regimen and hard work ethic alone shows he deserves this recognition.
Bear Bryant Siegal (North Bay Haven): Wrestled at the International Greco-Freestyle vs. two Olympians and scored on both of them.
Gage Wiggins (Braden River): He went to Adidas Nationals won national titles and led Florida to a National Team Title.
Derrick Williams (Bozeman): He went to Adidas Nationals won national titles and led Florida to a National Team Title.
