Kabra+: Class 1A Individual Rankings (Updated 2/25)
BY BRANT PARSONS — The last rankings of the 2022-23 season have been updated.
After this, the wrestling mat will determine the top places in the state.
But don’t fret, rankings will return after the state tournament with the “Way Too Early Rankings”.
For the final rankings, I only rank the top 10 wrestlers in each weight class and I only rank those who are competing in Kissimmee. I’ve been asked why I don’t rank all 16, and while I would have that in my notes, it would mean that I’m also ranking the “worst” wrestler in each bracket and I want these to be a positive compliment to the wrestling season at all times.
Best of luck to every wrestler competing at the Silver Spurs Arena and I can’t wait to be there for the whole thing. We have the most comprehensive update to the rankings of the season with less than a fortnight of the regular season remaining.
Records that appear next to wrestlers are either from coaches - or the latest information I have on the wrestler from Track or other sources.
The Rankings
We want to have the best rankings possible and we thank everybody who provides information for the assistance and support.
As always, if you know of any corrections, pertinent results, and anything else can be sent to me at brant@kabrawrestling.com.
A few other things about my rankings. For each set of rankings, I rank what I feel are the 20 best wrestlers at each weight class in each class. This means that there are times where a school may have more than two wrestlers ranked in a weight class if they have produced results worthy of being ranked. This does change come the postseason as the rankings then only reflect those in the postseason for each school at each weight.
If a coach has made me aware of which weight class each wrestler might end up in, I will take that into consideration, but I don’t try to guess a coach’s plan.
While these rankings can be used as a guide to who could make the state tournament, they aren’t a prediction for the state tournament. They are simply a snapshot of who I think are the best 20 wrestlers at that moment in the weight class no matter team or region.
There are multiple factors that go into the rankings, including but not limited to: Head-to-head meetings, like victories and defeats, comparative performances, eye tests and recommendations from an unofficial panel of voices that I listen to.
There is no exact science to these rankings, but I believe over my years of doing it, I’ve developed an accurate and respected rankings system.
Thank you for your continued support.
