They’re up!! Kabra Wrestling’s Region Previews/Predictions

BY BRANT PARSONS — At long last, the Kabra Wrestling Region Previews and Predictions are now live.

I started working on these months ago with the building of the pages and templates for each of the 12 region previews and the planning for how I’d manage to get this done in the short timeframe allotted.

Since the district tournaments concluded on Saturday, I’ve broken down and noted all 48 districts and 672 weight classes to update the rankings, I’ve printed each region bracket, and I’ve worked out how I believe each of the 168 weight classes will play out.

I’ve then taken these predictions and listed my predicted podium finish this weekend added two “wildcard” wrestlers that could surprise me and end up on the podium. I’ve picked an opening round match that I think could be a close and exciting one. And I’ve written 168 short blurbs on each bracket.

Since Sunday, I’ve been up working at 4:30 every morning and grinded away until my younger kids’ bedtime each night. It’s massive. It’s crazy. It’s one of my favorite things to do.

There might be typos or spelling errors, if you notice a spelling error, please let me know so I can fix it. Along with my many grammatical errors, I’m going to be wrong on my picks. I average around a 78% correct pick rate for state qualifiers since I started doing these eight seasons ago so just doing that math shows that I’m wrong 1 out of every 5 picks.

You can certainly tell me I’m wrong if you wish, but I’m not changing them. And there may be results I missed that make my picks look wrong - that’s okay - maybe those results will happen again and I’ll continue to look wrong.

These are meant as a fun way to preview a wonderful and heartbreaking weekend in high school wrestling and one of the best weekends of the year. I wish there was a way to be at all 12 of them. I have no bias in my picks and no rooting interest in my picks. I often forget them right after I publish them.

Lastly, if you want to make region picks of your own, I say go for it, but please don’t copy mine, change a handful of them and call them yours.
