KISSIMMEE — BY BRANT PARSONS — Christina Borgmann and Kendall Bibla punctuated their high school careers with their second state titles and Flagler Palm Coast pulled away on the final day to win the school’s first girls state team title at the FHSAA State Wrestling Championships at Silver Spurs Arena.
The Bulldogs finished with 150 points, 44 better than co-runners-up South Dade and Hernando and had seven wrestlers place including their two champions.
“I’m so proud of my teammates and how hard we work in the room and I’m glad we all got to get a state championship together,” Bibla said.
For Bibla, the championship culminated a year-long quest to get back to the top of the podium. The 2023 state champion was injured in last year’s state tournament and then suffered another injury over the summer.
“It means everything to come back here and win this,” Bibla said. “I was really in a low place after my injury this summer, but I knew that this was my last season and I had to give it my all and I did - 100 percent.”
“When I won my state title in 2023 it was the best day of my life and I decided that I wanted to repeat it, so I did that this weekend.”
Borgmann finished the season undefeated at 33-0 and didn’t allow an offensive point in the tournament. The senior was drained from emotions after finishing her high school career with back-to-back titles.
“I’m just now processing that it’s all over now and my heart burns,” Borgmann said. “I’m happy to have won, but I’m sad, because my high school career is over.”
Ana Vilar also reached the finals for Flagler Palm Coast at 135 pounds and finished second. Joslyn Johnson (3rd at 105), Mariah Mills (3rd at 110), Tianna Fries (3rd at 145), and Alexa Calidonio (5th at 155) also placed for the Bulldogs who punctuated a memorable weekend.
“We all started together and we’re all back together now,” Borgmann said. “It really means a lot to be able to share this together.”
