Coral Park’s Sofia Delgado voted Reader’s Choice for Week 3 Wrestler of the Week
BY BRANT PARSONS — Sofia Delgado keeps marking off things on her to do list in her senior season.
The 140-pound senior won the Let Freedom Ring tournament in Week 3, moving up to 145 pounds to wrestle the top-ranked wrestler in the weight class Katherine Stewart.
“It was a good experience wrestling Katherine in the finals at Let Freedom Ring,” Sofia Delgado said. “Wrestling your friends always sucks, but Katherine is a great competitor and it was a really fun match regardless.”
Delgado topped the Bartram Trail senior 5-4 to win the title and set herself up for another Knockout Classic title run.
She won that too (in Week 4).
“This match added to things I’m checking off for my senior year because it showed me that I can hang in the higher weight class if I really wanted to and it was a great confidence boost for the rest of the season,” Delgado said.

Kailani Barrientos (Oakleaf), Matie Coutinho (Orlando Freedom), Cheyenne Cruce (Middleburg), Andrea Garcia (Riverdale), Alena Rik (Mater Lakes Academy), and Gabriella Vasquez (Bishop Verot) were the other worthy nominations for the award.
