Orlando Freedom girls finish season ranked No. 10 in the country; Booe heading to Wyoming Seminary
BY BRANT PARSONS — The accolades keep coming for the Orlando Freedom girls wrestling team.
On Thursday, FloWrestling revealed it’s Top 30 girls high school wrestling programs in the country following the 2021-22 season and the Patriots were ranked No. 10 in the country.
"It feels great to be mentioned as a top 10 team in the country," Freedom coach David Bush said. "This year has been such a fun year with the sanctioning of girls wrestling in Florida. I’m excited for our program and the future of girls wrestling in Florida.”
Freedom won the first-ever FHSAA-sanctioned girls wrestling title this season with nationally-ranked wrestlers Cameron Galvin (115) and Kailey Rees (125) winning individual state titles. Kiara Brin (2nd at 235), Keyla DeLeon (3rd at 135), Maite Coutinho (7th at 100), and Banishca Derilus (8th at 170) also placed for the Patriots.
“We look forward to build off this year and would love an opportunity to compete against the other teams in the top 10,” Bush said.
The Freedom girls program is hosting a girls event in the 2022-23 season on December 17. The Let Freedom Ring IBT already boasts a line-up of some of the best teams in the state.
Booe moving on
In other girls wrestling news, Palm Harbor University’s Clare Booe is heading to Pennsylvania to wrestle. The sophomore state champion at 105 is heading to Wyoming Seminary to wrestle her final two high school.
“I am sad to never be in her corner again but I am grateful for her family for helping grow the program,” Palm Harbor University coach Matt Avramidis said. “I can’t wait to watch her achieve her goals.”
Booe finished the season ranked No. 13 in the country by FloWrestling at 106 pounds. She is competing on the Florida team at Junior Nationals this week.
