11 matches to watch in Friday’s girls district tournaments

BY BRANT PARSONS — Friday gets us close to the end of a whirlwind week where the FHSAA has crowned every girls district champion in four days.

On Friday, there five district tournaments scheduled to take place.

Kabra Wrestling took the time to look over each district and try to find some matches that we’d love to see take place.

Check out the entire FHSAA girls postseason schedule and results here.

As always, there is not a guarantee these matches will take place - but we hope they do.

Rankings are taken from the latest official Kabra Wrestling Individual Rankings which are released every Tuesday throughout the year.

Locations and times are from the FHSAA calendar and are subject to change without notice.

Girls 1A-1 at Mosley, 1 p.m.

100: #1 Camdyn Elliott (Gulf Breeze) vs. #6 Sayuri Caceres (Lincoln)

Elliott has proved to be the strong favorite at this weight class and has two wins over Caceres, who should find her way up the podium next month too.

140: #16 Kelsey Marschka (Chiles) vs. Kiiaana Gavere (Pace)

These two haven’t faced each other as far as we know, but they could be in the finals at Mosley.

Girls 1A-5 at Ocoee, 1 p.m.

145: #9 Emily McCormack (Windermere) vs. #13 Melanie Saucedo (Ocoee) vs. #14 Dailane Thompson (Apopka)

McCormack beat Thompson 7-0 at the Metro Conference tournament. Saucedo wasn’t there after getting hurt back in Week 7 at Girls Knight Out. We don’t know the extent of her injury, but she could make this very interesting if she’s back and healthy.

235: #16 Yami Herring (Ocoee) vs. Thalia Rodriguez (West Orange)

Giving some love to the heavyweights with Herring owning a win over Rodriguez this season.

Girls 1A-7 at Mulberry, 4 p.m.

130: #10 Kiley Earle (McKeel Academy) vs. #11 Angelyn Glazier (Lake Region)

These two have totaled just three losses this season, but one of Glazier’s was to Earle.

Girls 1A-12 at Cypress Lake, 2:30 p.m.

100: #4 Mia Parker (First Baptist-Naples) vs. #7 Kiera Partello (Barron Collier)

When they met during the season, Parker earned a hard-fought 3-2 win. This could be the finals matchup in each of the girls next two tournaments.

105: #7 Skyler Randolph (Riverdale) vs. #10 Gabriella Vasquez (Bishop Verot) vs. #11 Emily Doolittle (North Fort Myers)

Randolph owns wins against both challengers, but the real thing to watch here might be the battle to get to the final. Vasquez owns a sudden victory win over Doolittle.

110: #3 Reagan Thomas (Naples) vs. #5 Jazlyn Diaz (Riverdale) vs. #7 Zoey McDonald (Palmetto Ridge)

Thomas goes into the weekend with two wins over McDonald and a season split with Diaz, winning their most recent battle.

Girls 1A-16 at Coral Park, 11 a.m.

100: #11 Sheyla Figueira (Key West) vs. #15 Paola Perez (Doral Academy)

Figueira comes into the tournament as the favorite but watch for the 7th grader to keep surprising.

110: #6 Zoe Delgado (Florida Christian) vs. #9 Rebekkah Kinkade (South Dade)

Another young wrestler on the rise with the 7th grader Delgado making her own name this year could face the GMAC champ in the final here.

120: #7 Willow White (SLAM Academy) vs. #8 Isis Severe (North Miami) vs. #9 Beyonce Espinosa (South Dade)

This could be a fun weight class with any of these three earning a district title. Severe did pin Espinosa in the GMAC final in Week 9.
