Gabriele Tedesco is your Wrestler of the Week for Week 8
BY BRANT PARSONS — For the second time on Saturday at the FHSAA State Duals, Lake Gibson’s Gabriele Tedesco had done something that surprised even her - she had scored a huge win to help the Braves win their sixth state duals title.
Wrestling at 106 pounds against Tampa Jesuit’s Brock Glover in the state duals final, Tedesco was looking for a win in a dual where every single point was precious.
After battling to a 1-1 tie in regulation, Tedesco came out on top with a takedown following a mad scramble in sudden victory to earn a 3-1 victory, but more importantly three crucial dual points for the Braves.
The win prompted the now patented shocked look on Tedesco’s face, and was enough to earn Kabra Wrestling’s Wrestler of the Week honor for Week 8.
“I was kinda surprised but I don’t know why because I knew it was two,” Tedesco said of the winning takedown. “I always have a little doubt in my mind but I just went out and I wrestled tough and I’m so proud I did.”
The win completed a 2-0 performance at the state duals after she went 0-2 last year wrestling against the boys in the same tournament.
Tedesco’s victory should also complete another goal the national champion wrestler set for herself at Lake Gibson.
“In our wrestling room we have pictures up of people winning big moments,” Tedesco said. “And last year I looked at my coaches and I said next year that’s going to be me, I want to do that.”
She’ll now have that picture from one of the biggest wins in school history - shocked look and all.
