Kabra+: Eight Florida vs. Florida matches that stood out at the Grappler

BY BRANT PARSONS —

Florida wrestlers took the stage this weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC and left plenty of impressions for the rest of the country to see.

The Sunshine State finished with three elite champions, 26 elites placers and six female winners in folkstyle and freestyle combined.

It was a good two days.

Even better for fans of Florida wrestling, some monster matchups happened over the two days between Florida wrestlers, here are the ones that stood out to me.

145 Final: Tom Crook (Tampa Jesuit) dec. Ethan Mojena (Lake Highland Prep) 5-4

One of the best state semifinals back in March was rematched in the finals here as the two 1-2 seeds stayed true.

This one was tight with Crook getting the win because of riding time, a college scoring feature used at the Grappler Classic, with over a two-minute advantage on top in the match.

Each wrestler scored on the offense with Mojena scoring a reversal in the closing moments of the second period and Crook fighting off Mojena to score his own takedown in the third.
