Zephyrhills Christian sets up big semifinal with convincing region duals title

BY BRANT PARSONS

KISSIMMEE — Zephyrhills Christian knew its opponent well after having just seen Lemon Bay in a tournament last weekend and knew their lineup would be enough to win a second-straight Class 1A-3 region title.

The Warriors won 11 of 14 bouts and put this one to bed early, winning 59-15 at the FHSAA State Duals Tournament.

“We had seen them at CCC and a lot of these matchups had already happened and we know which matches would be good,” Zephyrhills Christian coach Tim Maple said.

ZCA built a 20-0 lead and never looked back.

Elijah Austin (285), RJ Phelan (106), Izak Rodriguez (113), and Uy’kwon Zion Wimberly (120) all earned wins to get this started.

Kyle Gallo (132), Noah Leota (138), Talon Maple (144), Aiden Hutchins (150), Curtis Tyler (165), Javier Lopez (175), Jeremiah Chavis (190) also picked up wins.

“The fun part about this is a lot of these kids are still in middle school,” Maple said. “So we’re going to have some of these guys for awhile.”

Lemon Bay did get wins from Jack Oliver (126), Keegan Martin (157) and Atticus Randall (215).
