KISSIMMEE — Suwannee knows what they have as a wrestling team and on Friday they did what they do best and beat Baker County 48-21 to win the Region 1A-1 title at the FHSAA State Duals Tournament at Kissimmee Osceola High School.

The Bulldogs built a 21-0 lead behind pins from Eli Jolicoeur (106), Topher Pearson (113), and Justin Contreras (120). After the Wildcats pulled within 21-18, Suwannee went on another run, winning six of the final seven matches.

Included in those wins were pins for Austin McKinney (150), Torynn Johns (175) and a major decision win for Marshall White (157).

“Our studs are doing what studs do,” Suwannee head coach John Wainwright said. “And that’s go out and win matches and get bonus points.”

Baker County did score four wins with Jareb Lauramore (126), Taz Kinghorn (132), and Brock Duncan (138) earning pins and in the Kabra Wrestling must watch match, Benny Lewis edged Benjamin Lewis 3-1.

With win, Suwannee moves on to face Hernando in the state semifinals.
