Virtual career fair to connect wrestlers with employers

BY BRANT PARSONS — Wrestlers can make great employees and more top companies are learning this and wanting a way to find them to work for them.

The Wrestling In Business Network is developing ways to make those connections happen.

WIBN is hosting its first-ever virtual WIBN Career and Internship Fair for college athletes and recent graduates (1-3 years) on September 21, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. ET.

The fair is free to all 14,000 men and women that wrestle in college and will feature at least 42 regional, national, and international employers that are interested in hiring wrestlers.

The fair will be on a software platform where wrestlers will get to interact with employers by video through virtual booths.

“These companies want access to wrestlers that have demonstrated a history of performing at very high levels under very adverse conditions,” NWCA executive director Mike Moyer said.

The virtual format career fair will allow athletes to browse prospective companies and speak directly to hiring personnel from each company that is part of the event.

Companies will also be able to spot potential applicants who upload resumes before the fair by singling them out to meet too.

“When athletes register, they can upload a resume into the system and then employers can scan those resumes and identify the one they are most interested in and reach out to those athletes and schedule an appointment,” Moyer said.

While this fair is directed more toward college wrestlers, WIBN is also working on strategies to connect high school wrestlers with careers who aren’t going to college.

“We’re talking to employers such as the various trades, the building trades - pipe fitters, plumbers, carpenters, fire rescue, the trucking industry and the military,” Moyer said. “We want to be preparing our young people for success and take it one step further and connect these wrestlers with careers.”
