Vote for the ‘Reader’s Choice’ Wrestler of the Week
BY BRANT PARSONS — Here are the nominations for the first Reader’s Choice vote in the 2025 offseason.
The reasons to vote for each wrestler are taken verbatim from the nomination.
Timmy Boda (Merritt Island): 1st freshman in Brevard county to win State Championship beat every wrestler that placed in the top 6 at one point in the season had 44 pins 7 techs 3 major decisions in 58 win season. Gave up only 3 escapes in the state tournament and scored 46 points and had a :23 pin.
Jessie Griffin (Bell Creek): Made it to States and won a match in 7th grade leads varsity team in wins for the season
Grace Leota (Hernando): Grace loves wrestling and puts in the extra effort. She is a role model for her teammates, and everyone who knows her. She’s an aggressive competitor on the mat, but off the mat she is a soft spoken gentle warrior for Jesus.
Michael Maisonet (Mater Academy): Michael should be wrestler of the week because he is not only a great wrestler but and amazing young man. He puts others ahead of him always he encourages those around him to do better. He is an amazing wrestler very tough came in 6th is states. He has been dedicated since he started wrestling at in years old in Jersey. He brightens everyone day. Michael is the underdog that deserves some recognition.
Taniyah McKinstry (Ed White): Taniyah a first year wrestler missed half the season she came back Monday with districts being Wednesday. She placed second after losing to state qualifier Columbia. Going into regionals she lost her first match to another state qualifier from Seabreeze fought all the way back after being down on points in every match and come out with a pin while also being injured in her first match. She lost in the blood round again to seabreeze but showed renlentless determination and a never quit mindset. Fighting through all the adversity she embodies our motto of hard work and dedication she will be working hard all off-season as she plans to make a state run next year
Gary Mendez (Mater Academy): state finalist, two time state medalist, team Florida member a very hard worker and very intelligent and good student 🙂
Natalie Reed (Centennial): it was Natalie’s first year, she went all the way to regionals taking 2nd in her district. she worked her butt off this season and kept her head up the entire time.
Chris “Tipper” Schnobrick (Olympic Heights): Chris (Tipper) Schnobrick because he went from being a state qualifier last year to being the only boy state placer in Olympic heights and on top of that placing the highest in the last 5 years.
Isabella Tellez (Doral Academy): Won the FAWA State championship in the Girls Junior 125 pound division winning all matches by fall.
Joe Tucker (Lincoln): He’s a state champ
