Kabra+: ‘Way Too Early’ Class 2A Individual Rankings

BY BRANT PARSONS — It's a starting point.

That's all it is.

I think that's the main thing to take from Kabra Wrestling's "Way Too Early Rankings" that have been updated.

These are where my rankings being for the upcoming year.

These rankings are based on results from last season with a stronger emphasis on postseason performance. They also include wrestlers who should be back next year to compete, but that's not always a certainty.

As I have said in previous versions of these rankings. I won't pretend to know which weight wrestlers will be competing in this coming season. This first set of rankings is based on the weight each wrestler competed in for the postseason or the last weight known for any that didn't wrestle for whatever reason.

-- BUT --

There is a new wrinkle this coming season as weight classes will be different in the 2023-24 season for the boys.

I've included these new weight classes in these rankings, since these are the first rankings for the 23-24 season. Some weight changes are bigger than others, but for the purpose of this first batch, I've kept wrestlers grouped in the weight class they competed in and changed the nomenclature to represent the new weight classes.

-- SO --

If you know which weight you are planning to compete at next season and would like to be moved to that division in Kabra’s rankings, please let me know. Coaches, parents, wrestlers - please let me know any weight class changes at any time and I will adjust. Obviously nothing is official in my rankings so moving around is anticipated and expected as we navigate the next eight months.

We will also consider questions to these rankings, which include H2H results, please feel free to reach out.

These rankings will be updated throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

The Rankings

We want to have the best rankings possible and we thank everybody who provides information for the assistance and support.

As always, if you know of any corrections, pertinent results, and anything else can be sent to me at brant@kabrawrestling.com.

A few other things about my rankings. For each set of rankings, I rank what I feel are the 20 best wrestlers at each weight class in each class. This means that there are times where a school may have more than two wrestlers ranked in a weight class if they have produced results worthy of being ranked. This does change come the postseason as the rankings then only reflect those in the postseason for each school at each weight.

If a coach has made me aware of which weight class each wrestler might end up in, I will take that into consideration, but I don’t try to guess a coach’s plan.

While these rankings can be used as a guide to who could make the state tournament, they aren’t a prediction for the state tournament. They are simply a snapshot of who I think are the best 20 wrestlers at that moment in the weight class no matter team or region.

There are multiple factors that go into the rankings, including but not limited to: Head-to-head meetings, like victories and defeats, comparative performances, eye tests and recommendations from an unofficial panel of voices that I listen to.

There is no exact science to these rankings, but I believe over my years of doing it, I’ve developed an accurate and respected rankings system.

Thank you for your continued support.
