South Dade’s mission continues with region duals title

The top-ranked Buccaneers powered past No. 7 Cypress Bay 68-3 to win their sixth straight 3A-4 region duals title.

“The hungrier you are the better you wrestle so I always get these guys fired up and I really do respect Cypress Bay and our guys never cease to amaze me,” head coach Victor Balmeceda said.

Misha Arbos (145), Gavin Balmeceda (152), Cordell White (160), Lawrence Rosario (170), Eyder Trejo (182), Chris Sancez (195), Ansel Cervantes (220), Sawyer Bartelt (285), Bryan Morales (106), Guillermo Jaramillo (113), Luis Acevedo (120), Tyree Graham (132), and Elvis Solis (138) all earned wins for the Bucs.

Cypress Bay earned the lone with for the Lightning with Gabriel Herrero winning by sudden victory at 126 pounds.

The win moves South Dade one step closer to reclaiming the state duals title they fell short of last year.

The Bucs will face DeLand in the state semifinal.

“We’ve never really faced them so it will be a new thing,” Balmeceda said. “They’re an up-and-coming team, or maybe they’ve arrived but I’m impressed with them and we’ll put our best team out there.”
