Bartram Trail’s Katherine Stewart is our Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week
BY BRANT PARSONS — As things sometimes align, the first tournament of the season for Bartram Trail’s Katherine Stewart saw her taking the mat with a familiar opponent - the one who beat her for a state title last season.
Stewart and Matanzas’ Kendall Bibla met in the 145-pound final at the Lady Clash of Titans at Orange City University and this time, Stewart came out on top with a 10-4 victory.
“I just went out and wrestled my best to try to start off the season right,” Stewart said. “There are still a lot of things I need to work on though.”
The performance impressed our audience, and earned Stewart this week’s Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week honor from Kabra Wrestling.
The win was not the first for Stewart against Bibla. She won the region and district final matches the two had and also secured a 9-7 win during the season. But the last meeting between the two was in the state final.
“Katherine is an outstanding student athlete," Bartram Trail coach Johan Olarte said. "She has been working diligently the entire offseason into the season. She’s always working to improve her ability while also acting as a leader for the team."
"We are proud of her performance and look forward to aiding her progression towards the postseason.”
