BY BRANT PARSONS — Eighth grader Emerson Webber won her first high school wrestling tournament she competed in - and now she’s been named Kabra Wrestling’s “Reader’s Choice Wrestler of the Week.”

Thanks to your votes, Webber is the first winner of the weekly honor that Kabra Wrestling will continue throughout the season.

"Emerson’s skill comes from her ability to be coached, she listens and adjusts," Zephyrhills Christian coach Tim Maple said. "Her positivity is infectious and everyone around her is lifted."

The Zephyrhills Christian 100-pounder defeated two ranked wrestlers at the Lady Braves Classic and won the weight class with a come-from-behind victory in the final.

"To win her first high school tournament as an 8th grader was something special to see," Maple said. "She has nerves of steel to stay composed even being behind in the score. She's what I call a mat general knowing how to take command over a match and win."

"I am so lucky to be in her corner."

The other worthy nominations for Wrestler of the Week were Christina Borgmann (Flagler Palm Coast), Abby DiCenzo (Bell Creek), Makenzie Eltzroth (Hernando), Emma Hoppe (Viera), Paisley Murphy (Wesley Chapel), Gabriele Tedesco (Lake Gibson), Grace Vernine (Admiral Farragut).
