16 matches to watch in Wednesday’s girls district tournaments

BY BRANT PARSONS — Most of the girls postseason starts on Wednesday with six district tournaments taking place across the state.

We’ve compiled a list of matches we’d like to see if we were attending each district tournament this week.

Check out the entire FHSAA girls postseason schedule and results here.

As always, there is no guarantee these matches will take place, we just feel that if they did, it would make an exciting week even better.

Rankings are taken from the latest official Kabra Wrestling Individual Rankings which are released every Tuesday throughout the year.

Locations and times from the FHSAA calendar and are subject to change without notice.

Girls 1A-2 at Westside, 1 p.m.

135: #16 Sara Goodman (Sandalwood) vs. #19 Finn Arthur (Fletcher)

Oakleaf’s Kailani Barrientos is the favorite in this weight class, but the semifinal battle to face here should be good.

235: #13 Josie Raulerson (Columbia) vs. #17 Jazmine Moore (Oakleaf)

The two have split the season series and the winner this time is likely going to be the district champion.

Girls 1A-3 at Matanzas, 1 p.m.

120: #16 Leslie Hoffman (Ponte Vedra) vs. Trinity Wanamaker (St. Augustine)

Hoffman is a returning state qualifier while Wanamaker has been seeing better results as the season has grown.

145: #1 Katherine Stewart (Bartram Trail) vs. #3 Kendall Bibla (Matanzas)

I mean, this is the one that everybody wants to see. Stewart has topped the defending state champion twice, but the second one was by a single point.

Girls 1A-4 at Lyman, 4:30 p.m.

120: #3 Grace Lashinsky (DeLand) vs. #10 Kiersten Flanagan (Winter Springs)

Lashinsky comes in hot after being two Top 5 wrestlers in Week 9 where Flanagan also saw her first action since mid-December.

170: #12 Shyann Tate (Hagerty) vs. #15 Eva Rojas (Mainland)

These two could be on the path to a meeting in the finals here.

Girls 1A-6 at Orlando Freedom, 1:30 p.m.

120: #6 Delialah Betances (Liberty) vs. #17 Taylor Thomas (Timber Creek)

The Georgia state champion will look to start her journey to the Florida podium and last year’s state qualifier Thomas could be in the way.

140: #3 Isabella Tolentino (East River) vs. #4 Hayden Proulx (Timber Creek)

How hard is it to beat someone four times in a season? Tolentino might find out if these two meet at Freedom.

145: #5 Kaylie Collado (Poinciana) vs. #8 Elody Rodriguez (Kissimmee Gateway)

Collado just won the Orange Belt Conference title and Rodriguez did not compete.

235: #5 Rotchiva Clermont (Orlando Freedom) vs. #6 Judlie Laplante (Oak Ridge)

Clermont owns a victory at the Lady Bear Classic, the last tournament that Laplante competed in as she missed the Metro Conference Championships.

Girls 1A-9 at East Bay, 1 p.m.

115: #13 Shaniah Martinez (East Bay) vs. #14 Jayla Jones ( Tampa Bay Tech)

A rematch of the Hillsborough County final? Okay, thank you.

135: #10 Ariel Goble (Strawberry Crest) vs. #13 Madison Diener (Bloomingdale) vs. #14 Jada Williams (Bell Creek)

Goble has a win over Diener - Diener has a win over Williams - Williams has a win over Goble. Let’s lace ‘em up ladies.

235: #11 Eliana Johnson (Bell Creek) vs. #12 Luna Martinez (Tampa Bay Tech)

Johnson has a win over the defending state champion this season and Martinez just earned a runner-up spot in Hillsborough County.

Girls 1A-10 at Boca Ciega, 3 p.m.

130: #5 Juliana Caisse (Palm Harbor University) vs. #14 Jayda Hagood (St. Pete Northeast)

These two met in the PCAC final last week with Caisse winning by a pin.

155: #9 Riley Lancaster (Admiral Farragut) vs. #15 Alayjah Campbell (Robinson)

The sophomore Blue Jacket wrestler owns a pin over Campbell this season, one of her two losses.

235: #1 Cerenity Whiting (Countryside) vs. #2 Kinea Moore (Boca Ciega) vs. #3 Aniya Herbin (Jefferson) vs. #8 Grace Vernine (Admiral Farragut)

All four of these girls could be on the podium at Silver Spurs. Whiting and Moore are 1-1 this season with Whiting winning a sudden victory battle this past weekend. Herbin has spent most of the season wrestling with the boys but placed third in the state last year. Oh and Vernine has a win over Whiting, going 1-2 so far.
