Jensen Beach eases into state semifinals with region title

BY BRANT PARSONS —Defending Class 1A state duals champion Jensen Beach showed how tough they are with a 42-25 win over No. 3 Mater Lakes to win the the 1A-4 region duals title.

"I'm proud of these kids, they wrestle hard for six minutes and I'll take that every time," Jensen Beach head coach Tom McMath said. "They came out and wrestled smart and tough."

The Falcons won 8 of the 10 contested matches to advance to Saturday's semifinals including the first three duals by decision.

Jewell Williams (145) started the dual off with a tough 5-4 win, with Dylan Fox (152) and Colten Byrd (160) also getting three points for No. 1 Jensen Beach

After Calogero Mazrillo (170) scored a technical fall win for Mater Lakes, Malachi Harriel (182) and Tobby Rooney (220) won by fall.

Ben Norris (106), Sebastian Degennaro (120), and Ryan Mooney (126) all won for the Falcons with Kellen Messina (113) winning on the mat for the Bears.

"They know what's at stake, they've been here before and it's about one match at a time," McMath said.
