Featured Dual: Manatee seniors celebrate their night with big win
BY BRANT PARSONS — Manatee’s seniors came up big on Wednesday night in their Senior Night win over Braden River.
All three Hurricane seniors in the lineup won their match by pin to lead Manatee to the 49-23 dual win.
“For us to beat a team that is ranked ahead of us on senior night and have all three of our seniors win by pin to lead the team is a great win,” Manatee coach Andrew Gugliemimi said.

Dennis Bodin (132), James Cabrera-Nutter (220), and Hamlet Rodriguez-Pena (285) all won their matches by fall for Manatee, who finished its dual season with a 33-5 record.
Braden River began the dual strong, winning three of the first four matches.
Jayden Russel (106), Grady Murphy (120), and Josh Turner (126) all picked up wins to build up a 12-4 lead. Angel Ojeda won at 113 pounds for the Hurricanes’ points.

Then led by senior Bodin, Manatee won the next four bouts to build up a 25-12 lead.
After Bodin’s win, Brody Hall scored a 3-0 decision win at 138 pounds before Jake Samuels and Julian Smith earned back-to-back first period falls.
Second-ranked wrestlers Gage Wiggins and Jessey Colas would sandwich a Manatee win with two bonus point wins. Wiggins won by fall at 160 pounds before Colas earned a technical fall at 182.
Mason Miller earned a pin in between at 170 pounds. Damontez McDowell also won by fall at 195 pounds, setting the stage for the two seniors to end the night.
Cabrera-Nutter and Rodriguez-Pena both won by pin to finish their Senior Night with a school record for dual wins in a season.
“I’m so very proud of all our wrestlers but especially this group of seniors,” Gugliemini said.
