Featured Dual: Tohopekaliga uses late run to defeat Oviedo

BY BRANT PARSONS — Tohopekaliga (2-0) won four of the final five matches to turn a nine-point deficit into a 37-31 win over Oviedo (2-1) on Thursday night.

With Oviedo leading 25-16, the run began with Toho 170-pounder Jacob Noid beating Luke Forsberg 11-8.

Luis Rasario, ranked No. 20 in Kabra Wrestling’s preseason rankings, then trailed Oviedo’s James Chiaradio 4-0 in the 182-pound bout before winning by a fall in the second period to tie the match.

“It was a pretty big deal for Luis,” Tohopekaliga coach Peggy Estevez said.

Chris Luyanda (195) and Starlin Clark (220) added back-to-back pins to see the victory for the Tigers.

"170-220 were successful finishes for us,” Estevez said. “I’m extremely proud of them.”

Egan Gustilo (120), Nathan Barrett (132), and Alejandro Nieves (145) also earned wins for Toho.

Oviedo jumped out strong in the match with Gunnar Essary (106), Josh Sabbia (113), Douglas Dowda (126), and Johnathan Dishman (138) all earning wins in four of the six first matches.

Clayton Mitchell (152), Lukas Crawley (160), and Solomon Dreggors (285) also won for the Lions.

Tohopekaliga beat Colonial (0-2) 39-21 in their other match while Oviedo topped the Grenadiers 68-12.
