KISSIMMEE — The road to the state duals title was filled with the best teams in Class 1A for Jensen Beach and the Falcons handled each one of them, seemingly getting stronger as their momentum picked up.

Jensen Beach won the school’s first team state wrestling title with a 42-21 victory over Clay in the state final in front of a boisterous crowd, winning 10 of the 12 contested bouts and punctuating a run to a state title that saw the Falcons beat five of the top 8 teams in Class 1A.

“This is a special group of individuals who believe in each other and we’ve been dialed in,” Jensen Beach coach Tom McMath said. “The path that we had to go through to do this, they beat everybody, they earned it.”

On Saturday night, the Falcons fell behind 12-3 after opening with a Matt O’Hara win and two Clay victories by forfeit before Jensen Beach turned the dual on its head, winning the next six bouts.

Sebastian Degennaro (106), Gian Ortiz (113), Ryan Mooney (120), Johnny Dobbs (126), Ryan Duguay (132), Jewell Williams (138) each picked up wins for the Falcons and after a Josh Krump pin for clay at 145 pounds, Jensen Beach won three more consecutive matches.

Dylan Fox (152), Duke Byfield (160), and Nate Sopotnick (170) put the finishing touches on the state title run for Jensen Beach, who topped defending champions Somerset, Cardinal Gibbons, Mater Lakes, Palm Bay and Clay in the Class 1A bracket.

“We’ve worked hard for a lot of year and to finally have a state title for Jensen Beach feels good,” McMath said.

Jensen Beach reached the finals after a 38-30 win over Palm Bay in the semifinals.

The Pirates jumped out to a 15-6 lead before the Falcons won 7 of 8 to clinch the title.

O’Hara (220), Degennaro (106), Ortiz (113), Mooney (120), Dobbs (126), Williams (138) Colton Byrd (145), and Fox (152) scored wins for Jensen Beach.

Six wrestlers won bouts for Palm Bay including Ronald Theilacker, who won a 1-2 battle at 132 pounds.

The top-ranked Theilacker defeated second-ranked Duguay 7-2 in one of the spotlight bouts of the dual.

Zachary Emery-Foster (160), Brycen Turner (170), Octavion Osby (182), Caleo Carrera (195), and Carlos Gerardino (285) all won matches for the Pirates.

Clay earned a trip to the finals with a 42-30 triumph over Lemon Bay.

After state champion Lance Schyck put the Manta Rays up 3-0 to kick of the deal, the Blue Devils won 8 of the next 9 to clinch a spot in the state championship.
