Last season: Port St. Lucie finished 30 points over South Fork and 32.5 ahead of Okeechobee.

Last year’s district tournament results

Last year’s region tournament results

Wrestlers to watch: Clayton Wolf (Okeechobee), Clayton Yearby (Port St. Lucie), John Williams III (Westwood)

The favorite: Port St. Lucie. This district feels like a toss-up, so we’ll go with the defending champions here.

Team to watch: Delray Beach Atlantic. The Eagles have been building up a program and should have another solid team.

District duals: TBD

District IBT: Feb. 15 at Suncoast

Kabra Says: For whatever reason, this is always the district that we know the least about heading into the season. So while we’re picking blind, we’re still picking, and Okeechobee gets the slight nod. But who knows?

What they are saying: “This is a young team but after a turbulent season, there's a new sense of structure and purpose. We have a foundation of young men and women who understand that wrestling, like life, is all about the work. Our number one goal, we have so many kids, we think that if they all hang on for the boys side that we could have a full lineup."

On the culture: "I want to create a culture where we understand that every moment has meaning. And I got inspiration, oddly enough from the Hulu series, ‘The Bear.’ One of the things I noticed from it, is to be a great restaurant, you have to have a great team. Everyone in the back of the house has to work seamlessly with everyone at the front of the house and to execute things perfectly, everyone has to have a defined role. Everyone has to have an ethos they all believe. They had a sign in The Bear that said 'every second counts,' and so on the back of our shirts this year, we put that. That's really kind of the ethos we're going for is that every second has meaning and that everything you do matters."

On the attitude change: "By strengthening the things and just kind of drawing from those personalities, we have a group that's really positive. They're putting in the work. They're challenging each other. There's just a really positive vibe in the room this year. We've had some good conditioning. We've had a good preseason. And so far, the first two weeks have been excellent, just because I think we built in some more accountability."

Outlook: Last season didn’t go as planned for the Chargers but after a clearing out of the team, what returns is a group of wrestlers who are inspired to build the program back up.
